How to be single

Four women find themselves single in New York City.  Should they take full advantage of their singleness or stay away from the social scene altogether?  They go out every night to party hoping they find the one, this is a "girls want to fun film".  This picture is funny and  i had a good laugh, take the girls with you.

Vir al tyd

This Afrikaans chick flick, another one from Mzansi is an exquisite story of love and happiness, and shows that there is someone for everyone.  Nina (Donnalee Roberts) is left at the alter by her husband to be, and decide to celebrate anyway, after too much champagne and long night of parting, she wake up in a plane to the island of Mauritius for her honeymoon with an old lost friend Hugo (Ivan Botha) where they discover the love for each other again.  The film show flashbacks of their childhood, which is interesting because we get to see where they come from.  I was moved by the car accident scene that happened while they were trying to escape.  The subtitles were depressing though.

Happiness is a four letter word

The cinema audience made this one enjoyable for me, the laughs, the clapping and the comments for me were amazing.  This Mzansi chick flick follows the lives of three established friends Zaza (Khanyi Mbau), Nandi (Mmabatho Montsho) and Princess (Renate Stuurman) through their work, love, social and financial lives in a theme of, duty, risk, work, deep, lust, mask, lies and torn.  They all face challenges and overcome them, while trying to find happiness.  The lesson here is choose what you really want and be happy.  i like the character of Bheki (Simo Magwaza) who is never home, but is loving husband and father.  It's interesting to know that the movie made about two million in its first week.  Watch this for the eye candy, and by the way this should not be called a chick flick, it's for everyone.
THE REVENANT

Should i say the best movie I've watched in a long time, and that Leonardo DiCaprio must get the Oscar nod for this one, a remarkable performance.  This is very emotional picture of courage, resilience, perseverance, love, pain, trust, hope and togetherness.  The words on the marketing poster says it all, "blood lost, life found".  There is a lot of debate about this motion picture like, how did DiCaprio survive a bear attack, those wounds were deep.  I enjoyed the connection between Hugh (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his son, "they do not hear your voice, they see your colour", a line Hugh say to his son.  One of the best scenes is one where Hugh removes the intestine of a dead horse and make shelter for the night to keep warm.  This is an exceptional film.
The Danish Girl

OMG! is how i felt after watching this poignant life drama of transformation. It follows a husband's journey to self discovery and to truly understand who he really is.  It begins with a fascination while husband and wife artists are painting a portrait for a friend's party, and Einar/Lili (Eddie Redmayne) falls in love with women's clothes, then it lead to a big decision that changed his life for ever, while his loving wife Gerda (Alicia Vikander) is supporting him through it all.  It's sad that Einar/Lili dies after his final operation. This picture made me fully understand the saying "he who made me, he who knows me".  The Danish girl deserve an Oscar for its portrayal of transgender people and the hardness they face everyday from society, if not for the full frontal scene where Einar/Lili put his penis between his thighs.
Joy

Triumphant at its best, we all have dreams and goals we wish to accomplish in life, and it sometimes does not go according to our plans, there are obstacles and barriers that prevent us from fulfilling them.  Joy is the epitome of dreams do come true and you just have to believe in yourself and move forward.  This biopic was inspirational, it follows Joy (Jennifer Lawrence) a divorced single mother, who lives with her parents and her ex husband who are dysfunctional.  Joy invent a mop that you do not wring using your hands, she faces challenges along the way,but succeed in the end, which shows that anything is possible.

Dirty Grandpa

Hilarious, hilarious!  I laughed from beginning to end credits.  Dick Kelly (Robert De Niro) a witty, cool, dirty and thirsty grandpa embarks on a road trip, after the death of his beloved wife, with grandson Jason Kelly (Zac Efron) who is to get married in a week.  Along the way they face crazy challenges while having fun and discovering their true potential and following their dreams.  After watching this flick, i want to see "Bad grandpa", I've never laughed like this in a while.
Concussion

The Oscars snubbing Will Smith made me want to see Concussion, which is an amazing film, and almost  put me in a verge of tears, as Will does in most flicks, like the "Pursuit of Happiness".  It follow the Nigerian born and educated forensic pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (Will Smith) who is dedicated and passionate about his job, and willing to defend it at all cost.  he has to deal with his colleagues and the credibility of his studies and profession being questioned.  Like most Americans he to want to be part of the American dream, while investigating the deaths of football players at a very young age, in a country where football is a popular sport.  he co-write a journal with a damning report on the strange deaths, which may destroy the entire football industry and put his family to misery.  I forgive Dr. Omalu and Prema Mutise (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) for forgetting their African accents in some parts of the film, big Will deserve an Oscar for this performance.
The secret in their eyes

This film is one of those that one get excited to see for the people in it, okay maybe that just me. As a huge fan of Claire (Nicole Kidman) and Jessica (Julia Roberts).  It was a bit depressing to see Jessica in a somber mood though the film.  This a great movie of determination, courage, passion and sticking out for one another.  It also look at the post 911 attacks which still affects Americans in a way, it follows the investigation of a murder which took place thirteen  years, where a cop's daughter was killed by a stranger, they over come different challenge and lay the investigation to rest.  "Jessica does look a million years old".
It's 2016 and i decide to give this  blog a life, as a media studies honours student, am hoping to have fun. I come back with better writing skills and improved grammar. Still learning how to write and use the English language, and improving my knowledge of film. 2016 is the year of movies for me.  Here is to having a wonderful and a prosperous journey.
Alvin and the Chipmunks 4

Same old, same old! It bore me to death, or maybe it was the experience while watching it, the cinema was packed to the rafters.  toddlers all over, the one behind me kept banging my seat, the one in front facing me and waving every five minutes.  I felt the sequel was a waste of money and precious time.  The first three were not bad, I still love the Chipettes though.
