A Blessed family!

Natasha finally meets her blesser

One of the funniest films I have watched, Blessers got me in stitches and some other patrons at the cinema hall. This film is the intersection of blessers and blesses. It was very fascinating to watch considering the love triangle between two misters in South Africa lately. I am not really a fan of comedy, but since I  like Kenneth Nkosi (Jacob Zulu) I decided to go watch anyway. I must say I was impressed by the quality of this film, the storyline was together, and laughter was the other of the day. I even enjoyed the homosexuality joke, and I liked the fact that there was a bit of queer representation. what I take home from this film is that we all have our blesser in some way, the first blesser is our parents, as incidental portrayed in the when Natasha (Six Nyamane) and Jacob met in that hotel room, Natasha meets her real blesser. The film addresses a serious issue in a comic way, which I found rather interesting. Mzilikazi Wa Africa blessed us with a soothing soundtrack.

A Zulu wedding which is not really Zulu

A Zulu wedding which is not really Zulu

Went with a friend to watch the latest Mzansi flick Zulu wedding, nothing was amazing about the film, we felt like time and money was wasted on our part. The director and producer were aiming for a Hollywood meet Joziwood kind of film but failed to deliver. They gave us mediocre, a complete bore. The first half of the movie was not bad, the Hollywood part, where we are first introduced to Lungi and Tax in New your, my friend thought that was arty and amazing! The thing went downward when Lung's uncle came to New York to fetch her to come back home for lobola negotiations. The film failed to show us a convincing Zulu wedding, they kept referencing culture, but what culture? They portrayed the beef between Sotho and Zulus. Tax's culture was invisible, the film misses an opportunity to show us African American culture or the lack of it. Tax and his friend wore Zulu attires at the wedding, which was confusing. Another confusing thing was Dj Tira, why was he part of the film? Not forgetting the over adverting of Liberty life, and Capitec bank. The only they got right for me was the soundtrack...That was AMAZING! For me, I enjoy the Msaki song and Oceans by Hillsong.

Inxeba (The wound) a provocative, brutal and emotional story, which documents the Xhosa culture of ukwaluka (circumcision) and a complicated relationship between closeted couple Xolani (Nakhane Toure) and Viji (Bongile Mantsai).  They meet every year at the initiation school where they are both caregivers and get a chance to be intimate, but Viji a married father struggles to accept his sexuality, and does not fully express his love for Xolani a single factory worker from Queenstown, who is seriously in love with him, but Xolani holds on hoping for the best.  Things turn sour when one of the initiates kwanda (Niza Jay) discover their secret and challenges Xolani to stand up for himself and become a man.  This film is beautifully shot and it has  scattered, but funny dialog. Is it Oscar worthy? You decide, but the best docudrama to come out of Mzansi Africa.
